From the preface
These maps have been reprinted from GEOLOGY OF THE HIMALYAS, by Professor A.
Gansser, University of Zurich, Switzerland. This volume, published by
Interscience Publishers, a division of John Wiley & Sons Ltd., was the first
volume in the series on regional geology edited by Professor L.U. de Sitter,
University of Leiden.
The maps include a geological compilation map of the whole Himalayas,
incorporating the Karakorum and the Salt Range, as well as a tectonic
interpretation of the adjacent regio. The publication of the maps is
particularly important since no new geological map of the range has been
published since Burrard and Haydn's geological map of the Himalayas, nearly 60
years ago, and the situation in the area makes it unlikely that any further maps
of the area will be published in the foreseeable future.
